Valley Of Dry Bones

I remember in Sunday School, we used to sing this song:

Ezekiel prophesied to the dry bones (x3)

And they joined to serve the Lord!

Bone standing! There is a bone standing, bone standing

Dry bones, there is a bone standing, bone standing (x2)

And they joined to serve the Lord!

I always thought that was all there was to this story. Ezekiel saw the bones, he prophesied and they joined to serve God. I had never taken time to read the story and study it on my own. Until recently, I always thought that the only lesson in this story was that “no matter you are going through, God can perform a miracle and turns things around.”

I went for a service and heard the Man of God speak about this story from a completely different angle and it caught my attention and piqued my interest so I decided to study it on my own. These are what I learned from the story – I hope it blesses you as much as it blessed me! Enjoy!

Ezekiel 37:1 – 4 AMPC

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

And He caused me to pass round about among them, and behold, there were very many [human bones] in the open valley or plain, and behold, they were very dry.

And He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, You know!

Again He said to me, Prophesy to these bones and say to them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath and spirit to enter you, and you shall live;

And I will lay sinews upon you and bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin, and I will put breath and spirit in you, and you [dry bones] shall live; and you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord [the Sovereign Ruler, Who calls forth loyalty and obedient service].

So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a [thundering] noise and behold, a shaking and trembling and a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

And I looked and behold, there were sinews upon [the bones] and flesh came upon them and skin covered them over, but there was no breath or spirit in them.

Then said He to me, Prophesy to the breath and spirit, son of man, and say to the breath and spirit, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath and spirit, and breathe upon these slain that they may live.

10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath and spirit came into [the bones], and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceedingly great host.

11 Then He said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried up and our hope is lost; we are completely cut off.

12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, O My people; and I will bring you [back home] to the land of Israel.

13 And you shall know that I am the Lord [your Sovereign Ruler], when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, O My people.

14 And I shall put My Spirit in you and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land. Then you shall know, understand, and realize that I the Lord have spoken it and performed it, says the Lord.

  1. The Hand of the Lord is not always going to take you where you want or a pleasant place. He takes you where you need to be but wherever He takes you, He will be there with you. V 1-2
  2. Whatever comes your way, whatever test or trail, God knows the result of it before it even occurs. He knows all things. All you have to do is to seek Him and listen to Him. V3
  3. Whatever Word God speaks will come to pass. No matter how impossible it may seem, it will be fulfilled. V 4 – 8, 9 – 10, 12 – 14
  4. In God’s presence, the impossible is made possible. Miracles occur in His presence.
  5. In God, the most hopeless of situations and hearts find hope. He gives meaning to life. V 11 – 14
  6. No matter how unworthy or unimportant life may make you feel, God has a plan for you and can still use you and bring you to an expected end. V 11 – 14
  7. Have faith and trust in God at all times.

In the Valley of Dry Bones, God commanded Ezekiel to prophesy three different times before the fullness of what God had in mind was fully established. Not because He couldn’t do it in one prophesy, because He sure could – He is God. Hearing this story from a different Man of God recently and studying it, I have come to believe that God wanted to show how important it is to remain in His presence at all times.

Let’s assume Ezekiel had left the presence of God after prophesying the first time to the bones because He was overwhelmed seeing them join one another. Who would have prophesied the second time for God to give them breathe or the third for God to open their graves and take them back home?

The process of the restoration of the bones begun with God’s presence and ended with God’s presence.

Many times, we are satisfied with mediocre miracles when God wants to give us more than we can ever imagine. We sometimes forget about God when we are satisfied and receive what we want and we leave His presence and focus on ourselves and steward that miracle in our own way.

We forget that the same presence that gave us that miracle is needed to complete and maintain it. You may need to let go off certain things or do certain things in order to keep your miracle – you only know that if you remain in the same presence you received that miracle, God’s presence.

Like Ezekiel, do not be quick to depart from God’s presence when He overwhelms you with a miracle. Instead, let it fuel your desire for more of Him and stay in His presence. What you may be seeing right now, as overwhelming as it may be, may be the result of just the first prophesy or the second prophesy. Remain in His presence for the third and whatever will follow.

Although we may stain ourselves, He is ready to cleanse us again. (1 John 1:7)

Although we may go through storms, He is ready to go through with us. (Isaiah 43:2)

Although we may doubt Him, He is ready to show us who He is.

Although our health may fail, He is ready to heal us. (Exodus 15:26)

Although our wealth may decrease, we are rich in Him. (2 Corinthians 8:9)

Although we may be crushed, He is ready to lift us up. (Psalm 145:14)

Although we may fail, He is ready to give us success. (1 Kings 2:3)

Although we may lose our parents, He is ready to be our Father and Mother. (Psalm 68:5)

Although our friends may walk away, He is ready to be our everlasting Friend. (John 15:15)

Although we may lose our way, He is ready to be the light on our path. (Psalm 119:105)

Although the world may turn their backs against us, He will never leave us. (Matthew 28:28)

He is always with us.

He is always close by.

He is always there.

Ready to see you through.

Ready to be your all.

He is ready, He is ready.

But He is gentle.

He needs an invite.

He needs you to call Him.

He could walk in and make a home…

But that’s not His nature.

Give Him a chance…

And allow Him in…

To the deepest parts of you…

The hidden areas.

Let Him surprise you with His awesome presence.

He is waiting on you…

Whenever you’re ready…

Although He wishes it was now…

But He will wait till He is welcome.

Allow Jesus in…

And be amazed by the move of the Holy Spirit in your life.

The God you serve

God is worthy of our praise and thanks.
Our circumstances shouldn’t change that

At every point in time, He deserves more than just praise and worship

Just because He is Lord, just because of His nature.

Not because of what He did yesterday or last week or month or year.

We ought to praise, worship and magnify Him just because.

We do not need a reason to worship Him.

He is greater than everything

There is none like Him

He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

You see, we only tend to see His nature and awesomeness when He does something great for us, but that should not be the case.

What if that difficulty is going to catapult you into your season of greatness? What if that hardship is going to develop the shield you need from the world when you reach the top? What if that challenge is to instill the exact character trait you need to survive the opposition at the highest rung?

In all things, we must learn to give thanks and praise to God as said in Thessalonians(“Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” – 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:16-18‬ ‭MSG).

Why? Because He has a plan for everything that comes your way. Nothing catches Him by surprise. He is able to turn everything around for your good if you trust Him.

Just know that, that tough and unfavorable condition you are in now is not going to last, because you may not see it, but He is working it out for your good, He is turning it around in your favor.

That’s the kinda God I serve. I do not serve a God who sits back and do nothing with my challenges. I serve a glorious God who cares and loves me. The God who wants to see me make it, that is the God I serve. Therefore, I will praise Him always, even when it is the hardest to do so. Because although I may not see it, He is turning my situation around for my good. That’s the God I serve.

Do you still think He doesn’t deserve your praise and worship? If we serve the same God, I am positive your answer was no!

Daily, sing His praises and worship, He more than deserves it!

Always remember that God is Turning Around everything for you!

Imperfectly Perfect

Regardless of your flaws and imperfections, be the best you can be and rely on God to perfect your imperfections.

I have come to a realization that being human, I will be flawed in certain areas and be weak at times. I also have come to a glorious realization that God always meets me at my point of weakness and imperfections. As a child of God, I am perfect through Christ’s power (1 Corinthians 12:9).

You’ve got to trust God with everything, including your flaws.

Believe that even with them, He can still use you to fulfill His purpose for your life.

Believe that He will accept you with them.

And most importantly, believe that your flaws do not prevent Him from loving you.

God created you just as you are, unique and one of a kind, state-of-the-art individual, a masterpiece – a flaw or mistake isn’t going to change that.

Do not treat God like He’s human.

Humans may brush you off because of your weaknesses, God will love you and teach you how to perfect them. Humans may judge you because of your mistakes, God will love you enough to correct you and turn them around for your good.

God’s love for you made Him send Holy Spirit to be your helper in such times and at all times. All you need to do is to ask for His help and wait on Him.

Oh, remember to let go off the reigns of control when you ask for help. He doesn’t need your assistance. He needs your obedience, however, to listen to Him and follow His directions and leadings.

Just trust Him and be obedient to His voice. Lean on Him wholly. But do not interfere with His work in your life. Allow Him.

God has a plan for your life and without your flaws, it cannot be achieved.
